Where Mamma Mia! was filmed in Greece. Both films are set on the fictional Greek island of Kalokairi, but while Mamma Mia 2 was filmed in another country, the original was in fact shot in Greece. Now that we’ve all whooped and wept our way through Mamma Mia! Sophie’s wedding procession was filmed at the Agios Ioannis Chapel near the village of Glossa (though the interior was filmed at Pinewood Studios), and a cliff on the Glysteri beach (located on the island’s east coast) was used for the cliff jumping scene with Sophie, Sam, Bill, and Harry (during the “Our Last Summer” number).
Among the locations on Skopelos—which stood in for the fictional island of Kalokairi in the film—the producers say a "mountainous peninsula" near Glisteri was used as the filming location where Sophie leaves for her wedding.
